Diuretic action of Benemid in the Rabbit

Abstract
|
|
|
The diuretic action of Benemid in the rabbit was investigated, and it was found that it elicits a marked diuresis during bicarbonate infusion whereas no diuresis ensues during infusion of hydrochloric acid & or sodium sulfate.
This action does not rest on the. change in glomerular filtration rate, but results from inhibition of reabsorption of electrolytes, in the tubule. It is postulated that Benemid inhibits carbonic anhydrase in the nephron.
